Fans' reaction to Thaksin's plan

The following are selected reactions from visitors to the websites of BBC Sport and the 'Manchester Evening News' in response to reports about ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra's bid to buy Manchester City Football Club.
Thailand went to the lengths of a coup to get rid of this man. He's under investigation for major tax fraud and owes the revenue services almost US$1 billion (Bt34.77 billion) in Thailand for fines and unpaid taxes. I'm quite sure the board will be aware of this when considering Thaksin's bid. He may be waving lots of money around, but the man isn't the least bit interested in improving the club; he just wants to use it to gain much-needed credibility and make a profit. By virtualtraveler
Thaksin was forced out of Thailand for corruption. I live in Thailand, and Thaksin always made it difficult for me or any European to live here. Yet he can spend his dishonest money on buying Manchester City. If he is successful in his quest, then I really hope the club does a Leeds, and he loses his money. This man should not even be allowed in the UK. By Robiyah
I feel we should know more about the origins of Thaksin's finances, to determine if this money was legally obtained. His history is somewhat shady. By jagloverredjag
Shinawatra would be my choice. He amassed his fortune in the telecommunication business before entering politics and is first and foremost a successful businessman. He will bring to City his vast experience of running a telecom empire in the Far East, putting him head and shoulders above our current board of sweet-shop directors. I understand he was seen shopping in Manchester last week. By Pete
Take the Shinawatra cash and run! He's a brilliant guy and an amalgam of benevolence and ruthlessness rarely seen - even in the political world. His reputation is as a great administrator and businessman, and he surely wants to prove he is worthy of a position of stature in British society. And wouldn't it be a gas to see the new manager, whomever he might be, with a cool £50 million (Bt3.48 billion) to spend?!?! Phil Geertsma, Sacramento, California
Keeping it British is great, but in reality we have kept it British for a long time now, and it's not served us well. Maybe it's time for a change. Of course, due diligence is always required when negotiating such a deal with anyone. Richard, Withington, England
