A university student from Chiang Mai died on Friday night after being seriously injured in a bomb attack at a market in Pattani.
Panpong Sopasri, 25, a student of Prince Songkhla University's Pattani campus was pronounced dead at Pattani hospital. He was a native of Chiang Mai.
Panpong was among at least 26 people who were wounded when explosives went off at a market in Muang district of Pattani at about 8.50pm.
Speaking from Chiang Mai, the victim's father, Col Annop, 65, said he was almost shocked when they were informed of their loss.
His wife, Samran fainted upon learning of her son's death.
"I had warned my eldest son many times to be very careful. I myself have followed up the situation in the south but I never thought that my son would be a victim," he said.
Panpong is the fourth year student with major in humanity, Annop said. "My son said when he is graduated, he would seek a job in Bangkok and work to support us," he added.
