Paper plea

An Education Ministry body wants textbooks printed on a new and more expensive matt paper that makes them easier to read through reduced glare and less strain on the eyes.
The Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Education Personnel wants new textbooks used by Grade 7 to 10 pupils printed on the special paper. Some of their textbooks are due for reprinting after content changes. "It's good for the eyes and it's lightweight," office assistant director Pakorn Rongnopparat said yesterday."Countries like Singapore and Japan are using this paper for their textbooks. You notice the paper is not white but more creamy," Pakorn said. The matt paper reduces glare and would also reduce textbook weight by as much as 30 per cent, he said.
