Wolves win the Phuket Sixes title

[CRICKET] Two teams from Perth fought out a dramatic final at the Phuket International Cricket Sixes yesterday with the Joondalup Kinross Wolves pipping the Leeming Spartans with a mighty six off the last ball to claim the Sixes title.
Following heavy overnight rain, which washed out the second half of the charity Twenty20 match on Saturday night, hot and steamy conditions greeted participants as the finals day got underway at Karon Stadium. But the action on the field from the teams was as hot as the conditions and the Cup final proved the best so far in the history of the tournament. Leeming batted first in the final and notched up a challenging total of 84 runs with Wayne Montana and Brad Mant both retiring (at 30) following bludgeoning knocks. Joondalup, making their debut at Phuket, chased the total down steadily. But Wayne Fontana's bowling for Leeming proved difficult to get away in the final over and 2 runs were required from the last ball. That however was despatched for a massive 6 towards the beach by "Chimpy", which ensured victory and the Cup to Joondalup. Earlier, Joondalup had defeated CBB Postels and Leeming Spartans had downed Lamma CC to reach the final. For further information see the tournament website www.phuketsixes.com
