Hi-Tech, Bangkok Bank champs

Hi-Tech and Bangkok Bank A yesterday underlined their supremacy in the King's Cup Basketball Championships at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium winning the men's women's titles.

The bank women showed their domination of the event by emerging champions for the 15th time in a row after beating Rattanabundit in a rematch of their last year's final.

Bangkok Bank fielded several national players including Nanthana Charoenrat, while Chalisa Chamnanwaree led the Rattanabundit assault.

The bank girls piled on the points as they raced to a 55-28 lead at half-time and widened it to 77-43 in the next quarter.

Rattanabundit made a last-ditch effort but it was not enough to carry them to the top of the podium as Bangkok Bank won 94-61.

Besides the prestigious King's Cup, the bankers received a Honda motorcycle and a digital camera. Rattanabundit received Bt30,000.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Bank B team outclassed Hi-Tech 67-53 in the third-place play-off.

In the men's final, Hi-Tech shattered Bangkok Bank's dream of a clean sweep of both the men's and women's titles by producing a scintillating come-from-behind performance to win 80-74.

Hi-Tech trailed their tough rivals in the first three quarters 57-48, but came back strongly in the final quarter, with Pramoj Channiyom sinking three-pointers at crucial times for the team.

Hi-Tech were awarded a Honda motorcycle and a digital camera while Bangkok Bank got Bt30,000.

Thiew Pai Ngarm A beat the Provincial Electricity Authority 87-70 to take the third place.

PEA's Dilip Rai won the Best Male Player Award, while the Best Female Player Award went to Rattanabundit's Chalisa Chamnanwaree. Both of them were awarded Bt10,000 cash apiece.
