Keerati is the winner

[SAILING] Young Thai sailor Keerati Bualung, a 14-year-old with the maturity of someone twice his age, captured the 7th World Byte CII Sailing Championship at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya.
The championship, which started on April 3 on the beach front of the yacht club and finished on Sunday, had 32 competitors from five countries, which included two from Brazil, one from Canada, 15 from Singapore, four from the United Kingdom and eight from Thailand. The young Thai won with an 8-race score of 22 points, seven points better than his nearest Singaporean competitor, Herman Nurfendi, who was second with 29 points. Herman won four of the 10 races but had one worse race than Keerati. Only the best eight races were counted for the title. The third place saw a tie among three sailors but Valerie Chia of Singapore took the honours because of better progression. The Thai team was the surprise of the regatta, sailing the bytes for the first time and putting three in the top 12. Byte is a single-handed racing sailboat recognised by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), and is specially suited to competitors of any age and gender. All 10 classes of byte under ISAF regulations were designed by Ian Bruce.
