[BEACH VOLLEYBALL] Thai teams got off to a flying start to progress to the third round of the 5th Phatthalung-Loma Asian Beach Volleyball Invitation at Lampam Beach.

Thais Yakita Youpukdee and Niphaporn Arun trounced Indonesians Ayu Cahyaning Siam and Efa Sri Susilowati 21-15 21-11 in the women's first round.

Later the same pair went down to senior compatriots Kamolthip Kulna and Yupa Phukrongploy 21-15 21-7 in the second round.

They made amends by beating Angelina Bridget Scanlond and Wu Shuqin of Singapore 21-13 21-14 in another match before downing Filipinos Michelle Laborte and Carolina Michelle 22-20 21-14.

Countrywomen Jarunee Sannok and Usa Tenpaksee outclassed Angela Jane Crewe and Lauren Spark 21-9 21-4.

In the third round, Jarunee and Usa face Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Tiep and Phan Thi Cam Hong, while Kamolthip and Yupa next play Yuki Yanagawa and Kazuko Zugawara of Japan.

The pair of Yakita and Niphaporn will take on the losers from the match between Chinese Jiang Zhongji and Jin Jieqiong and Kazak Mashkova Tatyana and Samoylenko Anastasiya.

In the men's category, Thais Taweep Thongkamnerd and Sitthichai Sangkhachot routed the 2006 junior Asian champions Tran Ngoc Cao Son and Nguyen Van Thanh of Vietnam 25-23 21-13 in the men's second round.

Their compatriots Baworn Youngthin and Montree Cha-emnoy, seeded third, fell to Indonesians Suratna and Agung Santoso 21-18 21-18.

The third seeded Baworn and Montree next take on Australians Andrew Wyer and Brad Smith, while Taweep and Sitthichai will meet the losers of this match in the third round.

Apichat Bua-luang and Yuthana Panchana failed to emulate their compatriots, crashing out of the tournament in the first round.

They went down to Indonesians Suratna and Santoso 24-22 21-16 in the first round.

The Thais then defeated India's P Mohan and Pradeep John 21-17 19-21 15-10 before Chinese Gao Peng and Li Jia Lu sent the pair packing 24-22 9-21 15-10.
