Five get life for murder

Four men and a woman were each handed life sentences yesterday for killing a man in a mob attack in Bangkok in May last year.
The Southern Bangkok Criminal Court initially sentenced the five defendants to death for knifing Phithak Ngewlai, but later commuted the sentence to life, citing their cooperation during the police investigation and confession during their trial.The five defendants - Pakamas Toomanee, 18, her boyfriend, 19-year-old Narin Phophoon, Chana Buntheekha, 25, Danai Phongchawee, 22, and Somchai Phuangphikul, 25 - attacked the victim in front of a large crowd behind a market in Sathon district on the night of March 11.
