PM to remain in hospital until Thursday

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont will remain in the hospital until Thursday for a thorough medical checkup particularly at his intestine system, his personal doctor said Monday.
Dr Prinya Taweechaikarn said that PM's medical checkup has been scheduled in advance, thus, put to rest a growing concern over the nature of his admission. "Initial and general checkup on Gen Surayud showed nothing unusual," said Dr Prinya. He said the PM's heart and blood pressure were normal but more examination will be needed to check his intestine system where a minor tissue was found eight years ago, Dr Prinya said. The prime minister arrived at the hospital at 11 am. The first public statement from the doctors was made at about 3 pm. The prime minister is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Thursday. He added that Surayud was in good health and would be effectively able to administer the country. Surayud's wife, Khunying Jitrawadee, urged the public not to worry about what she insisted was a routine medical checkup. Surayud, who rose to the army top post through the Special Forces command, is known for active lifestyle that include parachuting and trekking. He continued these activities even after his retirement three years ago. The Nation
