Mass transit :Lloyd's Register Rail appointed by BTS for Skytrain safety management audit

Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) recently appointed Lloyd's Register Rail (Thailand) to conduct a review and audit of BTS's Safety Management System, in accordance with Lloyd's Register Rail's "Best Practice Model" standards.
The audit involves an assessment of both the adequacy and effectiveness of the company's Safety Management System, compared with the requirements of international best practice. BTS has now successfully implemented all recommendations to the recognised standard to achieve certification, the company said in a press release last Thursday. HANOI :Kingdom to set up VN tourism office The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has received the green light to set up a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam News Agency reported last week. An official document from the Government's Office last Tuesday announced that Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem had approved the TAT's application. The document said the deputy PM had instructed the Vietnam Tourism Administration to collaborate with the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, the Public Security Ministry and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to guide the establishment of the Thai tourist representative office, in accordance with Vietnamese law.
HANOI :Foreign textile firms show their wares More than 100 leading foreign textile and apparel firms displayed their materials and equipment at an international exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam News Agency reported last week. Textile and Garment Expo 2007 was held in the Ho Chi Minh City International Exhibition and Convention Centre from Wednesday to Saturday of last week. The event was courtesy of Hong Kong-based CP Exhibition, Vietnam Textile and Apparel (Vinatex) and Vietcham Expo, which is an affiliate of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A similar exhibition will be held in the Giang Vo Exhibition and Trade Fair Centre in Hanoi from April 17-19. The total number of participants at the two exhibitions will number about 370. They come from 25 nations and territories, including Belgium, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. "This is the biggest exhibition held annually in the textile and apparel sector," said Le Quoc An, president of both Vinatex and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association. Vietnam ranks 13th among the world's textile and clothing exporters, with an export turnover reaching US$5.8 billion (Bt203 billion) last year. The country is expected to earn $10 billion from textile and clothing exports in 2010.
