Suriya and Amnaj march on

Athens Olympic bronze medallist Suriya Prasarthinpimai and rising star Amnaj Ruenreong progressed to the quarter-finals of the 29th King's Cup International Boxing Amateur tournament at The Mall Ngarmwongwan's MCC Hall yesterday.
Suriya of Thailand A team made the fight against Nepal's Rajan Silpakar look like a sparring bout after notching up an out-score win. He next faces India's Vijen Ber in what could be a manageable tie in the last eight. Light flyweight Amnaj continued his fine form in his first international event following an impressive win over Hector Bubler of South Africa in the first round. Amnaj - a 21-10 win over Wales' M Nasir -will face Laos's Singhkam Vongprakome in the last-eight round. In the welterweight division, Athens Olympic gold medallist Manus Boonjumnong opened his campaign in fashionable style by sealing an RSC out-score win over Nepal's Tamang Ratna in the second round when he led 19-0. Manus's younger brother, Nont, failed to follow suit after he went down 9-1 to Uzbekistan's Elshod Rasulov in the middleweight class. Tridanai Santaweesuk of Thailand B also crashed out after suffering a cut above his left eyebrow. The ring doctor judged he could not continue the fight against Kamal Sameera of Sri Lanka in the featherweight class.
