Corruption report suffers hiccup

Junta leader Gen Sonthi Boonyaratglin blamed "human error" on Monday for broadcasting glitches during the awareness campaign on corruption aired by Army-run Channel 5 over the weekend.
Sonthi dismissed speculation that the military failed to fully cooperate with the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) to expose graft violations by senior members of the ousted govern¬ment. "I want the anticorruption programme to be on air in order to raise public awareness, and starting this week, the broadcasting staff should air the show in its time slot," Sonthi said. He said the documentary on corruption, made with the AEC, resumed on Sunday after station workers mistakenly mixed up the broadcasting schedule the day before. Channel 5 officials said they had aired the wrong documentary tape, but sought to rectify the error by broadcasting the twotape docu¬mentary during prime time on Sunday evening. The TV station has allocated the 7.30pm prime time slot after the evening news to air the anticorruption documentary on Saturdays and Sundays. Last week's documentary out¬lined the scandal relating to the installation of CTX 9000 bomb scanners at Suvarnabhumi Airport. This weekend's report is slated to expose irregularities linked to the Ua Arthorn housing project. The Nation
