CNS hit over office shambles

The Council for National Security may be having internal problems as a letter calling for an end to the ban on the activities of political parties has failed to reach the chairman, General Sonthi Boonyarataglin, Thai Rak Thai Party executive Kuthep Saikrajang said yesterday.

Sonthi had said earlier he had not seen the letter, which was sent on February 19 by Thai Rak Thai.

The letter calls for the council to revoke two announcements, 15 and 17, which curtailed the activities of political parties.

"Government House and the Royal Thai Army headquarters recorded [receipt of] our letter on February 23, but the CNS chairman says he has not yet seen the letter. I think the system within the CNS might have a problem," Kuthep said.

He noted some political groups were being permitted to hold activities.

"It's double standard," he said, adding Thai Rak Thai did not want the government to curtail the activities of the political groups but lift the ban that affected political parties.
