Bomber's lost arm?

The left arm of a man discovered yesterday behind a petrol station mini-mart in Yala town might have been blown off by a bomb that exploded prematurely, police said.

The victim may have been one of the militants behind the daily roadside blasts, police said.

A trail of blood led officers to the home of Maruding Samoh and Sorbeyoh Cheh-sueni, metres from the store in Tambon Tha Sap.

But when police summoned the man and woman for questioning, about 100 villagers, mostly women and girls, staged a protest, demanding their release.

The crowd dispersed after blocking Phetchakasem highway for more than an hour when it was confirmed the couple was merely being questioned by investigators and could return home.

In Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district, police were looking for a group of young men after bombs kept in their row house apartment went off, injuring other tenants. Neighbour Musariha Salaemae was wounded and rushed to hospital, police said.

A 10kg bomb and chunks of steel rods believed to be used as shrapnel were found in a room. Police were interrogating the owner of the five-room house.

In Yala's Bannang Sata district, Suntari Boonlert, 30, was shot twice while riding her motorbike. Police suspect the attempt on her life was by militants.
