Priceless royal ceremonial arms found in palace's rubbish dump
Several ceremonial weapons belonging to the Terengganu state's royal household were found amid heaps of rubbish in the Melawati Palace grounds here - about 24 hours after they were reported missing
It is learnt that the items - three daggers, three keris and a sword - had arrived from the northeastern Terengganu state museum on Friday evening to be displayed at an upcoming exhibition at the palace next week. The antique pieces believed to have immense historical value, belong to King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin. Sources here said a staff member from the museum found the items were missing at around 9am on Saturday and immediately lodged a police report. A police team rushed to the palace to look for the missing royal items and later found them hidden in heaps of rubbish within the compound of the palace. It is believed that the culprits had hidden the items among the garbage temporarily until they found a "safe and right" time to take the weapons out and sell them. Two palace workers, in their 20s, have been detained to help in the investigations. Putrajaya police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdul Majid confirmed the incident. He declined to give details other than saying that investigations were underway. Tuanku Mizan took the oath as Malaysia's 13th King on December 13 last year. His installation date has yet to be fixed.
