Food campaign at 7-Eleven

Food safety is to be promoted through more than 1,000 branches of the country's largest convenience-store chain.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has signed an agreement with CP 7-Eleven to collaborate in various activities. 7-Eleven will get technical help from the FDA in standardising its food suppliers, which include small operators whose products need to be monitored to ensure the safety of consumers. Up to 70 per cent of goods sold by 7-Eleven are food products. Managing director Piyawat Titasattavorakul said that with the help of the Public Health Ministry, the company had recently set up its own microbiology laboratory to serve its suppliers in testing food. The FDA had also trained 7-Eleven employees in food safety in order to conduct promotions at the point of purchase. "If one store has approximately 1,000 customers per day, about four million customers a day will be guaranteed food safety," Piyawat said. Arthit Khwankhom The Nation
