IN BRIEF
Suphan Buri not ready

The World Women's Junior U-20 Volleyball Championship could end up being played in Vietnam after it was decided the Suphan Buri venue would not ready for the prestigious tournament.

Suphan Buri had been chosen to host the meet from July 19 to 27 but provincial officials recently informed the Volleyball Association of Thailand (VAT) that it could not, giving no reason. The Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) was scheduled to inspect the ground this weekend.

VAT has decided to move the venue from Suphan Buri to Nakhon Ratchasima, where The Mall's Hall has a new 2,000-seater stadium, and will ask the FIVB officials to inspect this venue. "If they are not happy with the venue, Vietnam is likely to stage the event," VAT secretary-general Shanrit Wongprasert said.

He said missing the chance to host the meet would be a blow for the development of the game in Thailand.
