Seminars on the sufficiency theory

A series of seminars on His Majesty the King's Sufficiency Economy Theory will be held this month as the Supreme Command Headquarters (SCH) embarks on a mission to create a proper understanding of the concept.
The Council for National Security (CNS) has tasked the SCH with organising the events. "We have worked on the promotion of the Sufficiency Economy Theory all along," Supreme Commander General Boonsang Niampradit said yesterday. He said the National Defence College of Thailand's Applied Psychology Institute was already scheduled to organise a seminar on the theory this Friday. "Now that the CNS has assigned this mission to us we will also hold two seminars next week," Boonsang said. The first seminar would be open to people in relevant positions, such as provincial governors and agriculture officials and the second would be for foreigners living in Thailand. "They can ask questions so that they can have a clear understanding of the Sufficiency Economy Theory," he said. It had yet to be determined which foreigners would be invited to the seminar. Foreign publications - including the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Economist and Newsweek - have recently attacked the sufficiency theory, saying it has contributed to a loss of confidence in Thailand. In a related development, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont yesterday gave a lecture on "Government Policies Based on the Sufficiency Economy Theory" at an event held to celebrate Thung Kula Ronghai area's 25th year under the Sufficiency Economy Theory. The event took place in Roi Et. "The development of Thung Kula Ronghai's area throughout the past 25 years has been in line with the Sufficiency Economy Theory and it is a success," Surayud said. According to Surayud, the Sufficiency Economy Theory can be applied to all levels - from family to community and even at the national level. "It's the middle path, especially for economic development, while keeping in line with globalisation," the premier said.
