Singapore wins the Asean Football Cup

Singapore secures victory over Thailand in the Asean Football Cup final in Bangkok after winning 3-2 on aggregate.

Singapore scores at the 80th minute to equalise 1-1 with Thailand. Thailand needs one more goal to play in the extra time.

7.45 PM : The match adjournes with Thailand takes one goal lead.

GOAL! Pipat Tonkanya scores the first goal for Thai team on the 35th minute of the first half. The goal sent fans in the stadium and Thailand into a frenzy.

7:16 PM : Dassakorn Thonglao got a yellow card for a hard tackling on a Singaporean player.

7:14 pm: A Singapore player, Mustafic Fahrudin, gets yellow card.

7:13 pm: About nine minutes into the game, a Singapore player sent the ball into the net to the shock of Thai fans but the goal is disallowed because the player is offside.

7:00 pm: Kick-off begins.

6: 55 pm: Both sides play respect to their national anthem and the players shake hand and exchange club flag.

6:50 PM : Thai and Singapore football players march into the field of the Supachalasai stadium that were full long before the start. 

6:40 PM : Football players of both countries wait in the tunnel, waiting to march to the field.

6:03 PM : List of Singapore Football Team is as follows;

5:15 PM : Thai football team led by Coach Charnwit Ponchiwin arrive at the stadium to prepare for the match. They went to pay respect to a Buddhist statue in front of the stadium. What they asked is not difficult to guess.

4:56 PM : Police distributes leaflets to Thai football fans, urging them to show sportmanship during and after the match no matter which country wins the tournament.

4:45 PM : Football Association of Thailand (FAT) releases list of Thai football Team :

4:20 PM : To make sure the safety of the match, football fans have to pass three times of security checks; firstly as they enter the areas in front of the stadium, secondly at the entrance of stadium and thirdly as they walked to tehir seats. Police used sniffing dogs to sniff the fans. Some 600 police are deployed to ensure the safety.

4:09 PM : Many football fans arrive at the stadium by sky trains to avoid traffic congestions. The National Stadium sky train station are crowded with the football fans, mostly in yellow t-shirts and jerseys.

Some vendors take the opportunities by selling national flags, pins and yellow headbands. Some people opt to buy services to paint their faces with colours of the national flags.

1:45 PM : Organisers of the stadium ask the football fans not to carry bottle of water and other objects that could be used as weapons into the stadium.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Wiroj Chantarangsri will chair a meeting of officials involved in the upcoming Asean Cup Final between Thailand and Singapore at about 54.15pm to update and review the plans ahead of the mach.

Police have set up checkpoints at the entrance of the Supachalasai Stadium on the Rama I Road.

Meanwhile Pol Col Montri Sampunnanont, a Chiang Mai police chief, said that police were assigned to be on alert to prevent any chaos if the Thai team is defeated.

All police in the province were told to intensify their routine checks to provide safety for people ahead and after the match in case Singapore team wins.

1:30 PM : Dozens of Thai football fans arrive at the Supachalasai Stadium ahead of time for the Asean Cup Final between Thailand and Singapore that will start at 7pm. They are allowed to enter the stadium before time after passing metal and explosives detectors installed at the entrances.

Anything that can be used as a weapon, even plastic bottles of drinking water, is confiscated.

12:15 PM : All 2,000 tickets are sold out within a couple of hours. Each fan is limited to buy only two tickets. This measure was applied on Sunday after the stadium authority allowed each to buy unlimited number of tickets on Saturday, making hundreds of fans unable to buy tickets. The angry football fans claimed that scalpers purchased a lot of tickets to sell them at extortionate prices outside the stadium.

10 AM : The Stadium authority begins selling tickets to waiting football fans.Some arrived at the stadium early Sunday morning with a hope to grasp ticket to the match.

About 2,000 tickets were available for sale on Sunday after Singapore football fans cancelled their trips to watch the game reportedly out of concerns of their safety.

It is reported that any Singapore fans decided not to travel to Thailand because of fears of reprisals following last Wednesday's controversial result.
