Phuket show 'to set record'

Phuket's Property Investment Exhibition 2007 is expected to set a record figure of Bt500 million in sales and reservations. The annual expo, staged by Phuket Provincial Land Office and Phuket Real Estate Club from January 12-16, attracted 50,000 visitors.

Thanet Traiwut, managing director of exhibition organiser Delice Thai, said most of the properties sold or reserved were valued at Bt5 million to Bt15 million, with reservations of more than Bt50 million. He said sales of more than Bt500 million were expected within one month.

"This is evidence that the recent changes in government policy will have only a short-term effect, but in the long term this policy will be transparent. Just be patient," said Phuket Real Estate president Phummisak Hongyok. "Besides, the ones who have complained the most are foreigners who have not done the right thing, such as those who evade paying tax."
