Thais face Vietnam

[SOCCER] Thailand will square off against old foes Vietnam in the home-and-away semi-finals of the Asean Football Championship after Alfred Riedl's side booked their berth with a 9-0 demolition of Laos in their last Group A match yesterday.
With the victory, the Vietnamese pipped Indonesia, managed by beleaguered Peter Withe, the former England striker, to secure their passage into the last four of the tournament formerly known as "Tiger Cup". Goal difference helped Vietnam finish with five points and second ahead of Indonesia who were held to a 2-2 draw by group winners Singapore in yesterday's other match. After suffering a 3-1 loss to the Kingdom in the King's Cup final in December, the Vietnamese would undoubtedly set their minds on taking revenge when they face coach Chanwit Pholchivin's side who qualified as Group B winners. The Vietnamese will first play host to the three-time champions determined to regain the title they last won four years ago next Tuesday, while the return leg will be held on January 27.
