She won Thai hearts with 'I Think I', but can Star repeat her glittering success with 'Love Story'?
South Korean singer Star, who is best known in Thailand for her hit "I Think I", the theme song of the popular TV series from Seoul "Full House", jetted into Bangkok last week to promote her new full-length album, "Love Story" on H2 Entertainment. Star, who was born Kim Go-eun, shot to fame back home in 2002 with her debut "December 32nd", and has since released two other albums, including last year's best-selling "Lachrymal Glands". "Love Story", which she is also promoting in China, features an added digital single, "Water Balloon" from her debut plus and a new version of "I Think I". "I've been involved in all aspects of the new album, from the lyrics to creating the concept, to designing my costumes for stage performances," says the 24-year-old. "I even came up with the outfit I'm wearing today. It's sexy but unfortunately it's a little too big, so I had to use a pin to adjust the fit," she adds with a giggle. Does Star, who is best known for her ballads, have any special techniques for getting her feelings across? "Not really. My voice is high-pitched and a little hoarse, which makes it different from other singers. "I used to practise Korean folk songs when I was a child, so I guess I can project," she says. The album features 13 tracks including "Cupid", "Yes I Am" and "I Think I", which she performed during the press conference at GMM Grammy Place. How does she expect Thai fans to react to this album? "I'm worried they won't like it, especially Thai fans who loved the original version of 'I Think I'. I would really like fans to love me more than the song." This is Star's third visit to Thailand and she says she's thrilled to be back. "I love it here. The first time I came in was as a guest at Rain's concert. "I came back to promote 'I Think I' when 'Full House' was showing on Thai television. "This time, I'm here for my own album." Does Star have plans to perform in the Land of Smiles? "It's possible but not in the immediate future. First, we'll have to see now well the album does here." Does she see Rain? "No, he is very busy with his tight schedule."
