HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
CDA to select leader today

The Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) selects a chairman and deputies this morning at its first meeting since receiving royal endorsement on January 2.
The 100 CDA members will select 25 of their number to sit on a drafting committee with 10 other charter writers selected by the Council for National Security (CNS). The chairman will play an important role in ensuring the draft is completed within a 180-day deadline and facilitate the assembly's cooperation with other groups in its work. Names tipped to win the position are Noranit Setabutr, Sawat Chotephanich, Decho Sawananont and Aran Thammano. Shin testimony Panthongtae Shinawatra, son of ousted prime minister Thaksin, will appear before the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) on Wednesday to testify about the controversial sale of Shin Corp shares to Singapore's Temasek Holdings. Kanjanapa Honghern, a secretary to Thaksin's wife Pojaman, testifies on Friday. Kanjanapa, Panthongtae and his sister Pinthongta were summoned to testify by the AEC last month and were liable for punishment if they failed to do so. However, Panthongtae asked that his appearance be deferred to Wednesday. His sister is sitting exams in London and is unavailable until January 24.
