Thousands sign New Year wishes to King

Thousands of loyal subjects clad in yellow yesterday flocked to sign their best wishes for His Majesty the King for the New Year at the Sala Sahathai Samakhom in the Grand Palace compound.

Among the well wishers was Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont who signed the message book before meeting with top officials at the office of the Internal Security Operations Command.

Everyone there received 2007 yellow pocket calendars, which had His Majesty's signature with the message: "The 2007 Royal Calendar Granted for New Year's Happiness".

The royal calendar showed the dates for the birthdays of HM the King and Queen and rest of the royal family, His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch's birthday, annual holidays, memorial days of nations with good relationships with Thailand and religious days.

Due to the multiple bomb attacks in Bangkok on New Year's eve, security measures had been tightened so people were only allowed to get to the Sala Sahathai Samakhom by using the Wiset Chaisri Gate, a Royal Household Bureau officer said.
