Royal barge model to be made of silver

Chiang Mai province and the Silverware and Handicraft Club of the Wualai community, famous for its fine silverware creations, are planning to build a model of the Suphannahongsa royal barge made of 99.99 per cent pure silver to be presented to HM the King to mark the auspicious occasion of his 60th anniversary on the throne and his 80th birthday in 2007.
The exquisite royal barge model will be 1.29 metres long and 29 centimetres wide. It will weigh about 12.999 kilograms when completed. The royal symbol of the 60th anniversary of HM's Accession to the Throne will be a highlight of the model to mark its significance and it will be decorated with gems, lacquer and covered with gold leaf. The silver barge will be carved by talented artisans from the Wualai community. The royal barge model will be presented to HM the King on Father's Day next year. The funds to create and carve the model have been raised from residents of Chiang Mai and private companies. Those interested in making a donation to the project can contact 053-112708 or the Silverware and Handicraft Club of Wualai community at 053-200729. Citylife Chiang Mai
