Female teacher attacked by militants pronounced dead

A female teacher who was attacked by suspected militants in Pattani on Thursday was pronounced dead on Friday, doctors said.

Chutima Rattanasamnieng, teacher of Ban Takae School in Yarang district, was pronounced dead shortly after midnight at Prince Songkhla Hospital in Songkhla province.

Chutima and Rungnapa Kongsuwan, also teacher at the same school, were riding on a motorcycle on their way to their school on Thursday morning when the militants on a motorcycle opened fires at them.

The victim was shot at her head, the bullet penetrated into her brain. Doctors failed to remove the bullet.

Doctors said Chutima's heart had stopped twice and the bullet destroyed her brain. She became the 61th teachers killed by the militants.

Rungnapa has remained in coma as the bullets hit her jaw and neck. But the doctors operated the operation to save her life but they were not sure whether she would be able to speak again.
