CAT foreign calls to drop

CAT Telecom has forecast the decline of its international-call revenues to Bt7 billion next year, a sharp drop from the estimated Bt11.3 billion this year, due to imminent competition from new players.
CAT's chief marketing officer Marut Burabasethuk said international-call revenues last year totalled Bt11.7 billion. He said the revenue decline would stem from the entrance of three to four new international-call operators into the market next year under the licence of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). One is AIS International Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of the largest cellular operator Advanced Info Service. CAT's existing international-call rival is TOT. True Corp and Total Access Communications have already applied for licences from the NTC to operate international-call services. Marut said out of the total forecast international-call revenues this year and next year, 57 per cent will be contributed by its 001 international-call service, 25 per cent from the 009 service and the rest from Internet calls from personal computers to telephones.
