STREET WISE
Guess who's coming to the ICT Ministry?

Poosana Preemanoch, once a high-profile tycoon, is back.
He went into a hiatus in 2003 after controversy erupted. At that time, he was targeted for criminal proceedings related to stock-market transactions he made while working as chief executive of Total Access Communications (DTAC). Poosana made a surprise appearance to meet and have lunch with Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom, Information and Communications Technology Minister, at the ministry's office yesterday. He came out from lunch with Sitthichai with flushed cheeks and an odour of wine. But Poosana remained cool and composed. Upon seeing the surprise guest, reporters who have been acquainted with him rushed to talk to the once high-flying executive. Some even suspected that Poosana might serve as an unofficial adviser for Sitthichai on telecommunications issues because many of Sitthichai's policies seemed to have the shadow of Poosana behind them. Poosana, however, strongly dismissed the idea. "No, no," he said, adding that he was just visiting an old friend. The two were friends when they studied in England. "I came here because we plan to do academic research together," he said. Reporters were curious whether Poosana planned to enter politics. Poosana, who once described himself as a political victim, made a face to show that he was really fed up with politics. In fact, Poosana might want to forget his political days. As a former PM's Office minister, he was once the target of three police searches, leading to the seizure of 25 antique and classic cars in his collection. Car connoisseur Poosana complained to the reporters yesterday: "You know what? To this day, I haven't received any of my vintage cars back." Before he left the ministry office, Poosana urged the press not to report his visit. He added that he would soon go back to England. But, sorry. We miss you too much to let you go unreported by the press.
