Two female teachers in Pattani in coma after morning attack

Pattani - Two female teachers who were shot on their way to their school are still in coma, said Anurak Waeni, director of Ban Takae School.

Chutima Rattanasamrieng, 34, and Rungnapa Kongsuwan, 27, teachers of Ban Takae school, were riding on a motorcycle together with other teachers on Pattani-Narathiwat Road when two suspected militants shot them early Thursday morning.

The attack was made not far from soldiers' checkpoint but the militants managed to escape.

Anurak said Chutima's condition was very serious as she was shot at her head and the doctors were trying to remove the bullet. While Rungnapa was shot at her jaws.

Now the teachers at Tan Takae School were very scared as this was the first attack on the school's teachers.

Anurak said all classes were suspended and he would discuss the situation with others before deciding when the classes would be resumed.
