Decision on new TAT chief due next week

The new governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is expected to be chosen next Thursday, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Suvit Yodmani.

He said the selection committee would finalise the last three candidates for the top TAT job tomorrow before submitting the names to TAT's board of directors, which will make the final choice next Thursday.

An industry source said that one of the short-listed candidates is a high-ranking TAT executive while the other two are outsiders.

The ministry recently appointed three new TAT board members to replace those who ended their terms. Of these, two are representatives of Tourism and Sports Ministry and the Finance Ministry, respectively. Another is a lawyer.

Suvit also said that the issue of closing down Thailand Privilege Card was not under consideration at the moment. But a study on the future of TPC is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
