We want to meet, TRT says

The former ruling party called on the government yesterday to allow political parties to hold meetings.
A group of former Thai Rak Thai MPs led by Kuthep Saikrachang submitted a letter to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, asking the PM to lift the Council for Democratic Reform's announcement No 15 and No 27, which ban parties from holding any political activities.Kuthep said although the process for drafting a new charter was underway but political parties still had no right to hold any meetings. "When we are restricted how can we express our opinions or participate in the new charter?" he said, adding that the party's letter was aimed at reminding Surayud, who met with political parties two months ago and promised that he wanted all parties to participate in the drafting of the new charter. Meanwhile, Thai Rak Thai Party leader Chaturon Chaisang submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC), asking the EC as the political party registrar to host a political meeting. Chaturon said if all parties agreed with the lifting of the two announcements the EC should propose the agreement to the government and the Council for National Security should give political parties a chance to suggest some ideas for the new charter.
