Cabinet decision :Immigrant workers get another year
The Cabinet has given the green light for immigrant workers to stay and work in the country for one more year, deputy government spokeswoman Natpreeya Chumchaiyo said yesterday.
With immigrant workers' permits due to expire on February 28 and June 30 next year, the Cabinet agreed to allow them to stay one year longer in the Kingdom until February 28 and June 30, 2008, she said. Foreign workers must receive a medical check-up in line with Public Health Ministry regulations and pay Bt600 for the check-up and Bt1,300 for health insurance. The Interior Ministry's provincial administration department was also assigned to merge the migrants' work records, plus ID card and work permit into one document - to cut complications. Wage adjustment :Civil servants to get more OTThe Cabinet gave the nod to a Bt50-per-hour pay hike to the civil servants' overtime payment during weekdays and Bt60 per hour during weekends and holidays, Deputy Government Spokeswoman Natpreeya Chumchaiyo said yesterday. The Cabinet had approved the Finance Ministry's proposal to change the civil servants' overtime payments during weekdays from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, from a flat-rate payment at Bt100 per day to an hourly payment of Bt50 per hour, she said. For weekends and public holidays from 8.30am to 4.30pm, which currently pays Bt200 per day, workers would have a new rate of Bt60 per hour - thus a day of seven working hours would now mean a payment of Bt420.
