Violence continues in the south

Suspected militants intensified their arson attacks in Yala province by burning a public health office and a kindergarten in Yaha district late Tuesday night.

In almost simultaneous attacks, the militants burnt to the ground a kindergarten building, destroying book shelves and classrooms, as well as a public health office that was totally destroyed.

Initial investigation showed that two groups of the militants poured gasoline onto the books in both places and set fire.

The attacks were the latest attacks after the militants burnt to the ground six schools in Pattani early Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile local villagers started gathering in front of a police station in Narathiwat's Sungai Padi district after police arrested a man for involving in series of violence.

Police said some ill-intentioned group tried to instigate the violence by inciting people to protest against the arrest of Masayukee Mana, 28.

They claimed that Masayukee is just a rubber plantation worker, not a militant.
