One dead, three injured in Southern shootings

Suspected insurgents shot dead a teenaged student and wounded his friend as they were approaching the victim's home in Tambon Pateh, Yaha district on his motorcycle.
Muhammedsabri Deesa, 16, died on the spot while his passenger, Saudi Hileh, 15, was rushed to the hospital. The boys attended a private Islamic school in the district. In a nearby village Muhamed-rusdi Sulong, 27, and Asuwan Kama, 11, suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to a nearby hospital. Police said they were unclear about the circumstances and whether the attack on the two was related to the one in the other village. District chief Supanat Sirantawinet visited the hospital and urged police to solve the case as soon as possible. In Narathiwat's Cho Airong district a couple, Mayunan Ama, 27, and Asuema Doko, 25, were gunned down as they were driving home in their car, police said. Pol Colonel Thanongsak Wangsupha said he did not rule out a personal dispute as the motive. Violence has gripped the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, as well as three Malay-speaking districts in Songkhla, since the end of 2003. More than 1,900 people, mostly Muslims, have been killed.
