Bank helps flood victims

Farms and small businesses that fell victim to recent floods are getting a three-year repayment-free period and soft loans, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives said yesterday.

Bank vice president Ennoo Suesuwan said the families of the 10 flood fatalities would have debt written off unconditionally.

Those wanting to take advantage of the bank offer need to register at a branch. Existing borrowers of less than Bt30,000 will have interest rates reduced.

Almost Bt3 billion has been set aside for small-business and farm loans and as many as 16,000 are expected to be eligible.

Ennoo said the bank would not assume responsibility for the scrapped One Million Cows Project. It believed farmers were not committed to the idea.
