Many takers for 'direct line' to govt

The first broadcast of the "Direct Line to Government House" programme last Saturday received a good response, Government Spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said yesterday.
He said more than 100 people called in with questions during the programme, which is broadcast on Channel 11 and Public Relations Department radio stations and aims to keep the public informed about the interim administration's performance. "However, since the air time was limited, we will answer some questions by mail," he said. Yongyuth said Public Health Minister Mongkol na Songkhla would be a guest on tomorrow's programme. "The minister will talk about free medical services and answer questions from the public," he said. Mongkol will also report on Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont's performance and the government's work during the week, he said. Yongyuth said Education Minister Wijit Srisa-an would be the guest on the programme next week and Interior Minister Aree Wongsearaya would appear on December 23 to talk about the campaign to reduce road accidents during the New Year holiday period. Yongyuth said the government spokesmen team planned to take the programme around the country. "We want two-way communication with the people and the programme has only 55 minutes of air time. We are considering where we will visit," he said. Regarding the prime minister's meetings with the press scheduled for the second Monday of each month, Yongyuth said this month's meeting had been postponed from Monday to December 25 because the premier would be travelling abroad.
