Rice pluckers: VN machinery sells well in Thailand

Engineers in the southwestern province of An Giang in Vietnam have found it easy to export rice-plucking machines to Cambodia businesses, which in turn make profit from reselling them to Thailand.
These machines, which are made in An Giang, fetch US$5,000 (Bt180,000) each when exported to Cambodia and they are resold at between $9,000 and $10,000 to Thailand, the Vietnam News Agency reported recently. The province now boasts more than 10 engineering workshops that can export some 500 machines a year, far from meeting demand. The machine is not only able to pluck paddy but is also useful for soybeans. A local producer now offers multipurpose tractors to these markets for $8,000. Flag carrier: THAI ticket office in airport hotel Thai Airways International recently opened a ticket office inside the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel. Executive vice president Wallop Bhukkanasut presided over the ceremony, together with Pichai Chunganuwad, director for the Thailand area. Wallop said the flag carrier had a policy of increasing sales and market share in the airline industry and maximising passenger convenience and satisfaction from ticketing, reservations and ground service to inflight service. With the opening of a ticket office in the airport hotel, the airline can more easily facilitate customers in the area. The hotel ticket office is the airline's second at the airport, with the first being the main ticket office at the check-in counter on the fourth floor. The office services include ticketing, reservations, mileage information for Royal Orchid Plus members and Royal Orchid Holidays packages.
