Sodhi withdraws civil suit against MCOT

Media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul withdrew Wednesday civil lawsuit against Mass Communication Organisation of Thailand (MCOT) and its former executives for dropping his television programme Muang Thai Rai Sapda (Thailand Weekly).
Sondhi alleged former MCOT chairman Rewat Chamchalerm, board member Tongthong Chandrangsu and president Mingkwan Sangsuwan, as well as MCOT Plc, of defaming him.
Sondhi, founder of Manager Group, requested Bt1 compensation.
The lawsuits claimed that on September 15 the four defendants gave a press conference about Channel 9's decision to scrap Thailand Weekly co-hosted by Sondhi.
In the press conference, the defendants said Sondhi had given one-sided information in the programme without letting the mentioned people speak on their side.
Sondhi's lawyer Suwat Apaipak said Sondhi had discussed the issue with MCOT acting president Pongsak Payakvichien and agreed to stop all conflicts with and within the MCOT.
The situation now had been changed. The three executives had resigned from their positions, Suwat said.
He said he had also requested withdrawal of the related civil case that Sondhi and Thai Day Dot Com Co, Ltd filed against MCOT for breaking contract. The compensation requested was Bt142.5 million.
