New road to Phnom Penh

The Land Transport Department has announced it will build a direct road from Bangkok to Phnom Penh via Aranyaprathet, as part of a plan to expand highway networks between Asean countries
Director-general Silpachai Jarukasemratana said an agreement on the special route would be signed next year by Thailand and Cambodia. Thailand also plans to extend its highways into Vietnam and southern China. Transportation and logistics companies wishing to use the new routes have been invited to express their interest with the department. Thailand previously opened checkpoints designed for commercial traffic on its borders with Malaysia and Laos, which created direct routes from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane. "By linking the various strategic routes in the region, Thailand has moved towards full integration of the land-transport network as agreed among Asean nations and China," said Silpachai.
