In Brief :Stronger baht boosts THAI sales

The strong baht has helped Thai Airways sell more tickets to Thai travellers, said Wallop Bhukknasut, the national carrier's executive vice president for the commercial department.
In a statement released yesterday, Wallop said Bt6.18 billion out of the Bt8.99 billion in net profit for fiscal 2006 had derived from the stronger baht, which has risen 10 per cent against the greenback this year. The weakened US dollar has lowered the "cost of sales", particularly in petrol, offsetting the recent rise in global oil prices. THAI is beefing up its front-line sales operation and has recently opened a ticket office at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi airport hotel.
New sales forecast Wyncoast Industry Park has adjusted its estimated sales for the year from Bt100 million to Bt70 million after a customer rejected rental space of 20,000 square metres at its warehouse in Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao province, in the third quarter. However, the company expects sales next year to double after its subsidiary, Wyncoast Logistics, becomes fully operational. Wyncoast Logistics expects revenue of Bt150 million next year after signing a transportation agreement with Katoen Natie Sembcorp (Thailand) yesterday. Wyncoast Industry Park announced revenue of Bt56.3 million and a net loss of Bt18.14 million for the first nine months of the year.
