Four gold for disabled athletes

[FESPIC GAMES] Visually impaired swimmer Aphiwat Anghiran won another two gold yesterday to tie with Chinese swimmer Wang Jia-chao with four each as the most successful athletes at the Fespic Games in Kuala Lumpur.
Competing in the S11 visually impaired category, the Thai swimmer won the 100-metres butterfly before finding his second success of the day in the 50m freestyle. The 43-year-old won his first two gold medals from the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle. His total of four gold medals makes him level on gold medals with Wang, who won four S8 Functional events - the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle. Pichet Krungget, who on Monday broke the world record in the 100m wheelchair event, caused a big stir again yesterday by shattering the old mark of 26.31 seconds set by South Korean Man Hong Suk in the 200m T53 wheelchair event with a record of 25.91. Previous record holder Man had to settle for second with a personal best of 26.17 seconds, while the bronze went to China's Yu Zhiran. Thailand won a total of 18 gold medals yesterday, 11 from swimming, five from athletics and two from tennis to be in second place overall with 39 gold, 29 silver and 39 bronze. Asian powerhouse China established a solid lead at the top of the standings with 119 gold, 44 silver and 22 bronze. Iran is third with 25 gold, 25 silver and 13 bronze.
