Security-lock contract

Bonny International, a local producer and distributor of travel luggage, has signed an agreement with Travel Sentry to import a special new locking system for baggage.
Marketing director Bandhit Nilchiansakul said that after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks against the United States, the US Congress introduced a law to ensure 100-per-cent security against the threat of explosives and other dangerous items in baggage. The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) enforces strict baggage checks at airports. A number of baggage manufacturers and retailers formed the joint venture Travel Sentry in 2003, in order to produce TSA-approved security locks. Luggage bearing the Travel Sentry logo can be opened easily by TSA staff without asking the owner. If no security problem is found, the baggage can be locked and put back on the conveyer belt. Bandhit said this system was secure for the customer, because only TSA staff could open the bags. “When we offer a lock system by Travel Sentry, that will guarantee our product’s quality in meeting the global standard and help boost our sales next year,” he said. The company expects sales growth of up to 20 per cent next year, compared with 15 per cent this year. Bonny will focus on new markets in the Middle East, India and Europe next year and expects exports to account for 20 per cent of its total sales, up from 10 per cent. It currently exports to Singapore, Hong Kong and Switzerland.
