Fire razes Nong Khai classrooms

Khoke Thon Witthaya School in Nong Khai’s Phone Phisai district after the fire. Two of its three buildings were destroyed by the blaze.
A school in Nong Khai's Phone Phisai district was partly destroyed by fire early yesterday. Buildings and equipment were extensively damaged but there were no injuries.

Local military and police officers arrived at Khoke Thon Witthaya to try to determine if the fire was deliberately lit. But initial investigations suggested the blaze may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Two of the school's three buildings were destroyed, along with a large number of electrical items, including a dozen personal computers. The total loss was put at about Bt2.1 million.

Witnesses said the fire broke out in a computer room on the second floor of Building 1. Police said no evidence had been found indicating an arson attack.
