Lotto money'll be on social fund

Social Development and Human Security Ministry is hoping to spend Bt5 billion from the government's two and three-digit lottery sale on social funds.
"The social funds will be used for social causes," Social Development and Human Security Minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham said Wednesday. He said the idea came from the way the Thai Health Promotion Foundation had received income from alcohol and cigarette tax. Paiboon said his ministry intended to provide public convenience for people with disabilities and the elderly, as well as to solve problems facing children and youths. He was speaking at a press conference on his ministry's strategies. Paiboon announced that the Social Development and Human Security Ministry will dispatch officials to every tambon and identify abandoned people in each tambon within three months. "Then, we will work out how to help these people," he added. Paiboon said his ministry would also strive to strengthen organisations for women, people with disabilities, youths, the elderly and disadvantaged groups. The Nation
