Ex-ministers slam NCCC

Two former ministers allegedly involved in corruption cases yesterday protested their innocence and slammed the National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) for attempting to ruin their reputations.
"I have no idea how I got involved with the case. There really is a political agenda behind the charge against me," said ex-deputy commerce minister Pinya Chuayplod, targeted over a coffee-price intervention scheme in 1990. Though the NCCC will allow him to counter the allegation, he said he had found it hard to find documents as the scheme was implemented more than 10 years ago.The NCCC decided on Thursday to form six fact-finding panels to deal with six graft cases involving ex-ministers from several governments. Suthas, a former justice minister being investigated along with three senior officials for their decision to waive a Bt70-million transaction fee on the auction of a seized plot, also denied the charge. NCCC member Klanarong Chantik insisted the agency's job was to close the cases. - The Nation
