Commissioner Sodsri Satayathum, who is in charge of dealing with political parties, said yesterday she had not been contacted by any politician about forming a "Seri Thai Party".

There was previously a political party named Seri Thai but it was dissolved in 2002 at the order of the Constitution Court, she said.

Earlier, members and descendants of deceased members of the Seri Thai (Free Thai) Movement, which fought against the Japanese occupation during World War II, expressed opposition to politicians looking to form a party with the same name. They said the move would denigrate the name and fame of the wartime movement.
