PM's help solicited on airport din

The Khehanakhon 2 community in Lat Krabang Soi 36 yesterday petitioned Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont for help to solve the problem of noise pollution from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The letter, signed by 200 families, said residents had suffered flooding and now they are also subjected to aircraft noise of between 80 and 90 decibels. According to the Pollution Control Department, noise levels should not exceed 70 decibels. The letter said many residents had developed hearing problems. Many families also said their elderly members were shocked and shaken by the sudden tremors and noise from aircraft. They urged the government to consider their plight and provide medical staff to care for the community's mental health. They also said that some time ago an Army officer claiming to work at the prime minister's residence had come to take their complaint and collect oil-contaminated rainwater for testing. Having received no response since that visit, the residents decided to file a direct appeal to the premier, they said.
