Incomplete floral exhibits to be hidden

Some exhibits at the Royal Flora 2006 Ratchaphruek are incomplete and might not be finished by the time the horticulture show opens today, the director-general of the Department of Agriculture (DOA) conceded yesterday.
Adisak Srisunpagit said some displays in the Organisation Zone - one of the three major zones at the international horticultural exhibition - might not be completed before today's inaugural opening. "We will cover them with cloth and not let them be exposed to the visitors," said Adisak. He declined to name which organisations had not completed their exhibitions. There are 22 local organisations hosting gardening displays at the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2006. Workers and gardeners of some organisations were still labouring on their displays yesterday, with at least one organisation appearing to be well behind schedule. There was no way to identify which display belonged to which organisation. Some plants and flowers throughout the Organisation Zone that appeared to be wilting were being replaced. A rehearsal opening of the exposition was held yesterday, with members of the press invited. However, instead of impressing those present, the rehearsal left most guests discouraged. "I will tell my family not to come here," said one newspaper reporter, "it's hot and uncomfortable." She also complained about the inadequacy of basic facilities at the show such as toilets and restaurants. However, organisers have provided 700 toilets for the 20,000-30,000 people expected to attend the flora show each day. There were three food halls in the 470 rai showground, the largest of which had a maximum capacity of just 650 people. In one restaurant, food was only available as a set for five people. Visitors in groups of less than five would be encouraged to join with others.
