Thai tourists to Vietnam up 45%

Vietnam has welcomed about 3 million foreign tourists so far this year, representing a 5-per-cent increase on year, the National Administration of Tourism told the Vietnam News Agency yesterday.

The figure includes about 280,000 foreign arrivals this month.

The number of visitors from Thailand has surged 45 per cent on year; South Korea, 30 per cent; Singapore, 28 per cent; Denmark, 25 per cent; Malaysia, 25 per cent; Japan, 20 per cent; and Russia, 18 per cent. As a result, hotels throughout the country have reported occupancy rates of 70-80 per cent, even 100 per cent for various four- and five-star hotels in major tourist centres like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang.
