Rambo to resurface in Kingdom

Sylvester Stallone has agreed to shoot his latest "Rambo" sequel here with Universal Pictures Studio Co considering Chiang Mai as the location, a Tourism and Sports Ministry official said yesterday.
The source said Universal's representatives, led by Branko Lustic, would meet with Tourism and Sports Minister Suvit Yodmani today to discuss filming in Thailand. The government has been trying to attract foreign shoots to offset the expected loss of foreign exchange from tourism. Lustic will also go to the Office of Tourism Development to seek more privileges for the project, the source said. Stallone is in the pre-production stage for his latest action flick, "Rambo IV: In the Serpent's Eye", scheduled for release in 2008. Thailand has become a popular choice among overseas filmmakers. Phuket, Phi Phi Island and Bangkok have all been used for shooting. A Tourism and Sports Ministry source said the US firm would meet agency officials at 10.30am at the ministry building on Rajdamnoen Avenue. The ministry has set up a one-stop service centre to draw overseas film producers.
